Who is Greg Agnew?
Greg and his family have been residents of Westwood since 1969. Greg is also a second-generation graduate of the Westwood School system.
While as a Political Science Major at Assumption College, Greg successfully managed the campaign of Westwood’s current Town Clerk, Dottie Powers. Greg also contributed to the successful campaign of our current State Representative for the eleventh Norfolk District, Paul McMurtry. In February of 2008, Greg was elected to Westwood’s Democratic Town Committee. Greg also currently serves on the Westwood Economic Development Advisory Board, The Westwood Community Access Television Board of Directors, The Pedestrian and Bike Safety Committee, and is the first male President of the Westwood & Walpole League of Women Voters. In addition to Greg's service as President on the Local level, he serves as the only male member of the Massachusetts League of Women Voters Board of Directors.
Greg is dedicated to community activism and supports initiatives and causes that make Westwood a better place to live. In the past, Greg has supported and participated in annual food drives as the President of the Dedham & Westwood Youth Action League, which donated to over 35 underprivileged families in Westwood this year. Greg has also supported and participated in Open Space awareness campaigns for Lowell Woods, Buckmaster Pond, and other Town conservation sites. In 2004, Greg initiated, organized, and led a project in Lowell Woods to mitigate flooding and improve stream flow of the Purgatory Brook. The Purgatory Brook is an important tributary of the Neponset River, which contributes to Westwood’s watershed.
For the past seven years, Greg has interned and worked in the Education, Healthcare, and Insurance sectors of our economy. As a Research Study Coordinator at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, MA, Greg was responsible for researching and managing over 200 gastro-intestinal cases for several of the hospital’s top physicians. At FableVision Studios in Boston, MA, Greg helped contribute to, and file 501 (c) (3) non-profit paperwork for FableVision’s newest educational venture. Greg is currently employed at the Schortmann Insurance Agency, Inc., and has gained valuable experience in connection with automobile, life, home, and other insurance sectors and regulations. This experience has given Greg valuable insight on the different aspects of a town’s functionality and arrangements.
As an Eagle Scout, Greg demonstrated organizational leadership skills and dedication earning him the coveted rank of Eagle. Greg also served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 1 Islington in Westwood and continues to remain active in the Troop instructing youth on organizational and leadership skill development.
Greg initiated and participates as an on air host of “The Political Edge”, a televised bi-weekly political review of national, regional and, local politics and issues. His show is broadcast by Dedham Public Television, and is available to Verizon subscribers in Westwood on channel 40. This year, Greg will also be participating as a co-host on a weekly broadcast radio show focusing on world events.
